If you’re looking for a new job, you might want to follow the Boy Scout motto: Always Be Prepared. You never know when you might bump into your next employer, and you may never get another chance to make a good impression.
Career Coach John E. Long, of Two Roads Resources, suggests you consider a two step strategy to make it easy to get your resume to anyone. First, Long says, you’ll want to make sure you have an account with LinkedIn.com.
“I cringe when I hear people talk about spending up to $1k or more to have a career services company develop a web based resume/portfolio,” he says. “Please save your money and create your own web based resume using a free Linkedin account.”
The next step is to put the link to your LinkedIn account on a business card, along with your name, contact information and a few key descriptions of your skills and experience. Carrying these “ProCards” with you at all times means you will never be at a loss when you meet someone important to your job search.
