Last night around the dinner table at Ryan and Sarah’s, civilization came to a quick and terrible end. It started with an outbreak in Washington, and quickly overwhelmed the world.
No, I’m not talking about exploding politicians. I’m talking about disease. I’m talking about a fun and fast-playing game of Pandemic.
Pandemic is published by Z-Man Games, and allows two to four players to play the roles of CDC officials fighting outbreaks of deadly diseases around the world. It’s a cooperative game, and each player takes on a role which allows them a special power.
On your turn, you travel to locations across the globe, fighting diseases, curing the sick, building research stations, and working towards creating a cure for one of the four the diseases.
At the end of each player’s turn, cards drawn from the infection deck increase disease in a location, which can lead to outbreaks that spread to other locations. You only have a limited time to cure and eradicate diseases before their spread overwhelms you and the game comes to an end.
Pandemic retails for $34.95 and can be found at stores like Phoenix Games and Gifts at 11811 Mukilteo Speedway. For more information, check out the Z-Man games site or BoardGameGeek entry on the game.
